Wooaa… Fall already?

September 27th, 2008

After a several month hiatus from doing anything with this blog, I’m finally getting around to updating/revising the software a little.  Of course, once that’s done, I have every intention of keeping the content a little more up to date as well.  God knows, hardly a day goes by when Abby doesn’t do or say something amusing or amazing that could justify a few paragraphs here.  Having time to capture these moments on the blog is another matter, but I’m re-dedicating myself to trying.

so… things will be in motion for a day or two (i.e., the site may look a little goofy or links may temporarily be broken), but it’ll be back better than ever in short order.

My MS Ride Training Partner…

May 13th, 2008

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Abby and I have been having a blast going for short rides in the Burley trailer.  We usually stop by one of the many Arlington county parks and watch whatever happens to be going on at the time.   We’ve seen soccer practices, dogs splashing in Four Mile Run, numerous other “babies!” (in Abby’s world- anyone younger than Mommy and Daddy :-) and lots of flowers.

Pulling the 20 pounds of trailer and 20+ pounds of toddler has also been quite a workout for me.  While I haven’t had much time to do any distance training for this year’s MS Ride (coming up this weekend!!), I’ve certainly gotten some endurance/strength training.

Speaking of the MS Ride— if you’d like to help me reach my fundraising goal, you can go to my MS Ride page.

Blalalannana!

February 6th, 2008

I wish I had a decent video/audio of one of Abby’s latest favorite words to share. At some point last month, her favorite sound became the ever popular blalalalalalalala sound you make by flapping your finger over your lips (did I mention before that she seems destined to be a first-rate class clown :-). From that point, it was only a matter of time before she connected that sound with one of her favorite morning foods– the ever-popular banana. Of course, since we all get such a kick out of her saying “DaaaAAAAd! blalalalannanna?”, she’s apt to repeat it even if she doesn’t really want one- just to get a laugh out of us.

Needless to say, Abby’s getting quite vocal these days– though probably 90% is still her own private baby-language with the occasional English thrown in for good measure. “Cat”, “Duck” and “Dog” are among her favorites (though “Daaaat”, “DaaaaaaaAAAAAd” and “Doggggg” all sound very much alike to the untrained ear). Her latest: Last night, she had a blast taking a “BAPH!’ We repeated the correct pronunciation enough times that frankly, I think she knows how to say BATH, but again, gets a kick out of the goofy pronunciation since it makes us laugh.

On a housekeeping note, the site might be miserably slow for a few days as this server is going to become the temporary home for the St. Charles Church website that was recently hacked. We’re looking for a new permanent home, but a few portions of it will have to coexist with Angelarry.com and ThirstyCat.com for a little while.

Happy New Year from the Prikockis Family!

January 7th, 2008

Abby greets 2008 in her cool shadesMerry Christmas! Happy New Year! Joyous Epiphany!! (been procrastinating a little on getting this written)

Well, we thought 2006 would be the most tumultuous year we’d have for a while– beginning as it did with the exciting news of Angela’s pregnancy, and closing out with Abby’s birth and then her very successful heart surgery. 2007 turned out to have even more surprises and challenges in store for us though… Read the rest of this entry »

Christmas in Kirtland!

December 31st, 2007

Abby spent her second Christmas with “Grammy” and “Grampa” Prikockis in Kirtland. As you can probably see from the slideshow below, she had a fun time celebrating the holiday. Although I don’t think I got any good pictures of them together, she especially enjoyed chasing Zed the cat.

Abby’s first music video…

November 29th, 2007

I’ve been playing around with a new(ish) site– Animoto.com– that takes your digital photos and creates a custom “music video” from them. The free version is limited to a 30 second “short”, and of course you’re restricted to non-copyrighted music… but the results are pretty slick for very little effort.

A bit o’ culture…

November 26th, 2007

Shameless advertising for Target… Last weekend, we took Abby on her first-ever Metro ride to check out the new section of the National Portrait Gallery. Unfortunately, while I brought the camera, I managed to forget a memory card. So all we have in the way of photos are the photo of a Polaroid of all of us posing with the Target (a sponsor) Dog, and a cell phone snapshot of Abby on the Metro.

Abby (as well as us adults) got a kick out of all the festivities at the museum– they had everything from Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol impersonators to jugglers, to Mexican dancers. Our personal favorite though was the crazy hat activity– where you got to pick out and decorate absurd hats. Apparently, this activity was a big hit with a lot of the visitors as the streets (and even the restaurant where we stopped for lunch) were full of “mad hatters”. Anyone who hadn’t been to the museum must’ve wondered what the heck was going on :- ) Abby’s first metro ride…

oops… we’re back online now…

November 25th, 2007

contrary to the rumors, the brief outage at www.angelarry.com was not due to either the stagehand strike on Broadway, or the writer’s guild strike. It was a simple matter of me trying to do some enhancements too late at night, getting everything in a royally FUBAR’d state, and then leaving town for Thanksgiving.

So, we’re back today… and with a cup of coffee in hand, I think I have everything more or less patched up. I’ll add a real update and some Abby photos later today. angelarry.com - pay no attention to the cables behind the curtain…

(and no… that is NOT a coffee can in the background… that’s a very carefully designed 802.11(g) wireless waveguide :-)
